Editorial
The current economic crisis makes it essential to extend social protection to all citizens, as a safeguard against social liability.
National and international public stakeholders have recognized this need, as demonstrated by the Bachelet Report (‘Social Protection Floor for a Fair and Inclusive Globalization’) and the newly-adopted recommendation from the International Labor Organization on a universal social protection floor.
In this context, the resolution adopted by the World Congress of Education International in Cape Town in July 2011 called on education professionals to promote solidarity-based social protection through education.
To be successful, efforts to extend social protection will require not just money and political decisions but also the belief in creating a culture of social protection among the young generations.
The Education and Solidarity Network has decided to adopt a framework for future social protection education programmes, that can be adapted according to local needs.
We count on all professionals and partners in education to support this project!
