On 26 to 29 June, in Quebec, the Centrale des Syndicats du Québec (CSQ), a member of the ESN, held its 42nd Congress. In defending the interests of its 200,000 members, the CSQ campaigns for a fairer and more equitable society. The Congress, based on the theme “Our power, action!” was an opportunity to reaffirm the power of collective action. Bringing together over 1000 people from the CSQ’s unions, this meeting was a chance to establish new strategies and priorities for the union in the next three years.

During the Congress, five members of the Executive Board were elected, including the President, Sonia Ethier. The outgoing President Louise Chabot and the outgoing Secretary-Treasurer Daniel B. Lafreniere, who is a member of the ESN Executive Board, received warm praise for their sustained commitment to the well-being of education professionals in Quebec and internationally.

The ESN had the opportunity to meet several of its members and partners, including Education International, represented by its General Secretary David Edwards, SNEAB from Burkina Faso, FENECO from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, UNSA from France, UDEN from Senegal, the Comité Syndical Francophone pour l’Education et la Formation (Francophone Committee for Education and Training Unions) and also the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. Further information is available on the Centrale des Syndicats du Québec website.
