The Education and Solidarity Network was stunned to learn of the untimely death of Gareth Young, deputy general secretary of the NASUWT-The Teacher’s Union, and administrator of the Education and Solidarity Network.

As an active member of the ESN since 2015 and administrator of the Education and Solidarity Network since 2019, he contributed enormously to the various actions of Education International and the ESN for the health and well-being of educational communities around the world. Because of his strong involvement in the association, he played a significant role in governance and decision-making processes as a member of the Board of Directors, but also by mobilising members of the Network on the issue of teachers’ mental health and by making valuable contributions on certain aspects of its internal and external communication.

Friendly and benevolent, Gareth built strong relationships with the members of the ESN who today express their sadness at the loss of an activist collaborator who will be missed by all, both for his commitment and for his kindness and affability.

We will do our best to ensure that our actions stay true to the hopes that he has pinned on the Network’s capacity for impact and our projects.

The Education and Solidarity Network offers its sincere condolences to Gareth’s family and colleagues at the NASUWT.
