On 12 and 13 November, members of the International Association of Mutual Benefit Societies met to review the current situation and discuss strategic priorities for the next 6 years
The president of AIM, Mr Christian Zahn noted the importance of the mutual society model and the need to promote it throughout the world. With this in mind, Matthias Savignac, AIM Vice President and Inter-Regional Coordinator presented the shared goals of all members for the coming years. One of the main aims is to improve recognition of the model advocated by AIM and improve the visibility of mutual society actions and programmes.
To this end, AIM has announced its collaboration with the Education and Solidarity Network on an informal health and social protection education project in Colombia. The project was presented by Thierry Weishaupt, Network Delegate General, by video conference. An important tool for AIM in terms of implementing projects in Latin America, the Network intends to help mobilise the region with respect to the mutual society model.
To that end, Thierry Weishaupt visited Colombia between 24 and 26 November accompanied by CIESS to attend working meetings with AMA (Alianza del Mutualismo de América) and local institutions and partners. This project has enabled mutual societies to make a commitment and implement the goals set out by AIM at its Extraordinary General Meeting. The programme will begin in December.
