The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) and the socialprotection.org platform organised on 27 July 2017 a webinar on the theme of access to healthcare in emerging countries. Based on a recent UNRISD publication and on case studies in Brazil and China, this webinar explored the challenges and opportunities which these countries must face in improving access to healthcare for people. Among the different factors fostering access to care, we retain among others: the importance of a mobilised civil society, collaborating with governments; the willingness and ability at the political level to bring about reforms; the democratic mechanisms promoting consensus among the different stakeholders, the strategies for reducing resistance within and from the private sector, etc. More information is available here.
